Bowl-a-Thon page of the week: Val, with "Chalk It Up for Choice"!
Val knows her audience. She unabashedly manipulates our tribal instincts, pitting cat people and dog people against one another in her zeal for getting more donations for the DC Abortion Fund, and as of this date is a third of her way to her goal.
Every donation to Val's effort is in effect a vote...for a CAT or a CORGI.
Year after year in DC, abortion funding is used as a political football in the national budget, using women's lives as "nothing more than a bargaining chip," as Val pointed out in a Mother Jones article in 2012, with federal politicians banning the use of local funds for abortion. And the DC Abortion Fund is there when no other option exists.
Val first participated in the Bowl-a-Thon in 2010, when she and fellow activist Danielle Geong approached the DC Abortion Fund as volunteers and managed to run one of the biggest events in the Network. The next year, she was named Board President. This is the fourth year the DC Abortion Fund has participated in the Bowl-a-Thon and the first year as a "Billiards-a-Thon," pooling their efforts to raise money for women and girls who lack the resources to pay for an abortion in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
So far, the cats are winning. But a small donation from you could change all that.
