It's not just about abortion. As someone who answers the hotline at an abortion fund, I know that for most of the people who call it's not just one thing that they're going through. It's not uncommon for us to hear, "I'm homeless, I don't have a job, I have three children, and I don't know what to do." We know there's a lot going on there that has to be addressed, and that's why it's important that we work with other movements. - Lindsey O-Pries
This spring we participated in the 26th Annual Conference of the Civil Liberties and Public Policy program at Hampshire College, "From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom" -- it's an amazing and energizing conference open to social justice activists across the country, and anyone interested in social justice should consider attending! Here is our own Lindsey O-Pries reporting back from the strategic action session, "Abortion Access" and the struggles that the people who we help are facing every day.
Virginia lives in federal prison.
Twenty weeks ago, she was sexually assaulted. She has no money for an abortion and her family is unable to help.
