Our Story

The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project (RRFP) was started in 2004 with a $20 donation from a grateful passerby outside an abortion clinic who gave the money to volunteers in appreciation of their work escorting patients safely past clinic protesters. These volunteers had seen women who had to leave the clinic because they couldn’t afford abortion services, and decided that the stranger’s $20 should be used to help them. They began organizing and fundraising to provide support to those who need it the most, joined the Network as a member fund, and gained non-profit status for the RRFP.

Our Community

From its $20 beginning, now the RRFP helps 50 women a year who would otherwise not be able to afford an abortion, and provides practical support to people in need.

The project also educates individuals and the community about reproductive rights and sexual health, and supports work that is being done to create safe environments for persons of all genders, sexes, and sexual orientations to receive reproductive health services and education suited to their needs.

Get Involved

For abortion funds, raising money is half the battle, because they can’t help women unless they have something to give. Donating to your local abortion fund means giving a woman the resources she needs to make the choice that is right for her.

Another terrific way to get involved with an abortion fund is to volunteer your time—as an all-volunteer grassroots organization, the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project always welcomes more energy and input. Find out how.
