Our Story

The Illinois Reproductive Justice Fund was founded in 1996 by Black Women for Reproductive Justice to help realize the goals of reproductive justice and address the devastating impact of abortion funding restrictions on poor women, who are disproportionately women of color.

Our Community

In addition to their Reproductive Justice Fund, BWRJ has several exciting programs that extend into the community.  The Sexuality Awareness and Women In Worship© initiative, for example, works with Black churches to help them address the reproductive health needs of women in their congregations.  The Safer Sex Educational Experiences© initiative teaches Black women and girls about reproductive and sexual health.  Their weekly internet reproductive justice radio show, Kitchen Table Talk, informs listeners around the country about current reproductive and social justice issues facing women of color.  BWRJ is also one of the Midwest anchor organization for Trust Black Women, a national partnership of Black women leaders and organizations in support of reproductive justice.

Visit the Black Women for Reproductive Justice website for more information about the important work that the organization is doing.

Get Involved

For abortion funds, raising money is half the battle, because they can’t help women unless they have something to give.  Donating to your local abortion fund means giving a woman the resources she needs to make the choice that is right for her.
